Covid-19 in the United States has been one of the most controversial topics involving the government and the people. Close to 3 years after the outbreak of Covid-19, many people in different industries are still agitated regarding issues concerning Covid-19. According to many, the government has many things which they are hiding from the public about Covid-19. The tennis world is included, as many sports personalities have questioned the government on issues concerning Covid-19 and how they handle them.
Shortly after the John Isner vs. Mannarino match, Isner showed his distaste about how the United States government has been handling issues concerning Covid-19. From his statements on social media platforms, he was disappointed in how the government handled the Covid-19 pandemic. According to some of his ironic statements, the government's restrictions on the virus are pointless and are not needed at this stage of post-pandemic. The US government has been called upon countless times to relax some of the rules it has made concerning Covid-19.
It all started when Novak Djokovic got banned from competing in the "sunshine double." The competition was held at the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells, and Miami Open. When John Isner heard about the news, he made an ironic statement on Twitter showing his support for his fellow athlete who was restricted from entering the country due to suspected Covid-19. Isner was triggered when a US doctor named Eli David made a statement on Twitter saying:
"🚨 Breaking: Djokovic denied entry to the US, because he's not vaccinated, even though he's already had Covid.
0% science. 100% cult."
John Isner quoted the tweet while ironically stating that the US government was always right with whatever they were doing. In the tweet, John Isner said, "Don’t worry guys, on May 11th he will be deemed safe enough to enter the USA. Until then, he’s far too dangerous. Do not question the science, our government has been spot on with all things Covid since the onset."
More Reactions From John Isner
Although John Isner's ranking in the ATP is 46, he still supported Novak Djokovic, who comes second. Within the month of March the athlete made two statements showing his disdain for some of the government's policies on Covid-19. In one of his reactions, John Isner supported a video of a man explaining that he would not take the Covid-19 vaccine. In a video posted on Twitter, the Twitter user said, "This is amazing. Dr. Fauci went knocking on doors trying to get people to get the covid shot. A man in one of the houses confronts him and explains why he won’t be getting the shot. We needed far more heroes like this over the past three years."
The man on the video, while explaining his reasons for not taking the vaccine, said, "People in America are not settled with the information that has been given to us right now. I'm not going to be lining up taking a shot on vaccination for something that wasn't clear in the first place. Then you create a shot in miraculous time, it takes years to create a vaccination." John Isner commented under the tweet, saying," This is fantastic."
