NFL fans will soon be able to see the 2024 NFL schedule release. It will be announced on Wednesday night.

However, the league has already given us a sneak peek at some of the most anticipated NFL games this season.

Jets 49ers gameplay

The week 1 matchup between the New York Jets, coached by Aaron Rodgers, and the San Francisco 49ers, coached by Brock Purdy, stands out.

Rodgers and the Jets will go to California on September 9 to play Purdy and the 49ers on Monday Night Football.

Rodgers grew up as a 49ers fan, but the team reportedly passed him over in the 2005 NFL Draft. This game is a big deal for him. Rodgers has publicly talked about his sadness, joking that the 49ers will probably feel bad that they didn't pick him.

Thus, Rodgers has a history with the 49ers, making this game even more critical. He had a tough time in the playoffs, going 0-4 against San Francisco despite having a 6-3 record against them during the regular season.

This game gives Rodgers a chance to change the story and show himself against a team that has been bad for him for a long time.

The game will be just Rodgers' second as a Jet, as he tore his Achilles on the first play of the 2023 season against the Buffalo Bills. Rodgers' season was over when Leonard Floyd was fired, which is an interesting fact. Floyd is now a player for the 49ers.

Brock Purdy is set to face the Jets on the other side of the ball for the first time in his career.

The young quarterback made a name for himself last season, leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl and setting numerous club records. Purdy's impressive performance won him a spot among the league's elite, and his matchup against Rodgers is highly anticipated.

The game also holds a personal link for Purdy, who had previously faced Rodgers in a preseason game in 2022. After throwing a game-winning touchdown, Purdy celebrated by mimicking Rodgers' famous "discount double check" gesture, much to the amusement of his boss, Kyle Shanahan.

Purdy's passion and competitiveness have made him a fan favourite, and his ability to perform under pressure has won him the respect of his peers.

With a season of experience under his belt, Purdy is ready to take on one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game.

Purdy took the 49ers to the Super Bowl in his first entire season as a starter, where they fell to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime, 25-22.

Purdy averaged 9.6 yards per pass attempt, the most in an NFL season, and threw for 4,280 total yards, breaking a 49ers franchise record.

He became just the fifth quarterback all time to throw 30 passing touchdowns and for 4,000 yards in their first season as a full-time starter.

Conclusion

The Jets-49ers game is just one of many exciting matches on the 2024 NFL schedule, but it's clear that this game has all the makings of a classic.

With two talented quarterbacks, a rich past between the teams, and a primetime slot on Monday Night Football, this game will surely be a must-watch for football fans everywhere.
