Wimbledon 2024 kicked off on Monday 1st July, with lots of news making the rounds around one of the biggest sporting events in Britain and the tennis world this year. No doubt, one of the most recent Wimbledon news surrounds Novak Djokovic’s playing status after undergoing surgery to refit a torn meniscus earlier last month. Thankfully, he's in good shape and faces off against Vit Kopriva in the first round on July 2nd.
However, while Djokovic remains a legend of the game and has a good chance of winning the trophy, he isn't as highly touted as a top favorite to win the grand prize as Jannik Sinner or Carloz Alcaraz. Of course, several other athletes rank high as favorites to emerge as potential champions at Wimbledon 2024.

The era where the trio of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal dominated the Grand Slams is apparently behind us. The retirement of the big names and Djokovic’s dwindling form have undoubtedly opened the door for several other tennis stars to be considered Wimbledon 2024 favorites. Many of these stars have impressively high success chances going into the tournament. Here's a list of the top favorites that tennis fans can look out for as Wimbledon 2024 unfolds this July.
1. Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz is the much-touted heir apparent to Rafael Nadal. Thanks to his final feat against Djokovic last year, he's etched his name as one of the new masters of the game to watch out for. Meanwhile, he's already followed up his 2023 heroics with a French Open title, further enshrining his name in fans and pundits' good books. Alcaraz looks to have moved past his arm injury, and ready to put up another amazing outing at the All England Lawn Tennis Championship.
2. Jannik Sinner
Only 22-year-old, Sinner already has over $20 million to his name as proceeds from his professional tennis career. Ahead of other competitors, the Italy-born Jannik Sinner comes closely behind Alcaraz as a top contender to clinch the coveted men’s champions prize at Wimbledon.
No doubt, his terrific feat of clinching his first Grand Slam title at the 2024 Australian Open will help his confidence. Sinner is not just a 2024 breakout tennis star; he made the semifinals at last year's Wimbledon. He's also won titles in Rotterdam and Miami earlier this year, which saw him oust Novak Djokovic at the top of the ATP rankings. There'll be little surprise if he comes out tops at this July's grass-court major.
3. Daniel Medvedev
Medvedev is one of the few players in Wimbledon 2024 with a Grand Slam title. The 2021 US Open champion might have yet to bag a title this season, however, the Russian's remarkable feat of reaching two finals at the Australian Open and the BNP Paribas Open this season makes him a top favorite to repeat his 2023 heroics and run deep at Wimbledon this month.
4. Novak Djokovic

There's no completing this list of favorites at this summer's Grand Slam without mentioning seven-time Wimbledon champion and arguably tennis’ most successful star. Djokovic seems fully fit for Wimbledon after rehab saw him fully recover from a torn knee injury he picked up at Roland-Garros.
Knowing that this could likely be one of his last appearances at Wimbledon, there are reasonable chances he'd put up a legendary fight worth rooting for in the coming days.
Other Stars Expected to Excel at the 2024 Wimbledon Men’s Single
Alcaraz, Sinner, Medvedev, and Djokovic might top the favorites' charts, but there's also a range of other highly-performing tennis players that could take this year’s Grand Slam event by storm. Some of the other stars we expect to shine include:
- Alexander Zverev
- Hubert Hurkacz
- Jack Draper
- Alex de Minaur
- Grigor Dimitrov
- Stefanos Tsitsipas
- Matteo Berrettini
- Tommy Paul
