The Hawks have had periods of success throughout their history, including winning the NBA championship in 1958 and reaching the NBA finals four times in the 1950s and 1960s. The team has rebuilt with a young core led by Trae Young in recent years and has made the playoffs in past Seasons. He is a two-time NBA All-Star.

Trae Young

Trae Young is a professional basketball player who plays point guard for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. He was born on September 19, 1998, in Lubbock, Texas, and attended the University of Oklahoma for one year before declaring for the NBA draft in 2018. Young became the only player to lead the National College Athletic Association NCAA in both points and assisted in a single season. He was nicknamed Ice Trae.

Atlanta Hawks May Trade Trae Young

Great modifications are coming to the Atlantic Hawks and could begin with Star Point Guard Trae Young, who could be reportedly traded away as part of a rebuild.

The 24-year-old joined the Hawks in 2018 as a fifth-overall NBA draft pick. Young has yet to win a championship but is a two-time NBA All-Star in 2020 and 2022.

Young's scoring average was reduced by two points per game this season. His three-point shooting has also been reduced, dropping from 38.2% to 33.5%. Atlanta has orbited around its star point guard since drafting him, but after two disappointing seasons, a front-office shake-up, and a head-coaching change, the Hawks might be willing to move on this offseason.

Sources from the League say that the Hawks' front office has given the green light from ownership to do whatever it wants with the roaster, including considering trade opportunities involving All-Star point guard Trae Young.

Considering what has transpired throughout the season, this should not come as a surprise. However, Young has publicly addressed reports of an offseason move by reaffirming his focus on Atlanta's play in-game. "It could be false, it could be true, you never know," Young said following the Hawks' shootaround in Miami.

While the Hawks explore their options with Trae Young this summer, O'Connor emphasizes that the odds are usually against a major star being traded unless he forces his way out. O'Connor adds that the most likely scenario remains that Atlanta Hawks will keep Trae Young and Murray together and try to rebuild the roaster around them.
